Inscription. The Oxford, Coronado Island's first hotel, was constructed in 1887 near the Ferry Landing. In 1890 the building was acquired by the Coronado Beach Company and re-purposed as a warehouse. In 1911 the building was moved from the wharf into the town center to provide housing for The Del's female employees and served this purpose until 1960. Saved from demolition in 1983, The Oxford was relocated onto the grounds of Hotel del Coronado and in 2021 was restored to serve as administrative offices.
