Downtown in Columbus in Franklin County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Town Street Bridge 1921 - 2009
Bridge Railing
The Town Street Bridge railing consists of one large recessed limestone panel over each of the concrete piers and abutments, and the remainder of the railing consists of 11 urn-shaped balusters between the small square limestone columns and topped off with a limestone cap.
These railing sections were the only component of the Town Street Bridge preserved when the concrete arch bridge was demolished in 2009 to make way for the Rich Street Bridge.
This plaque is placed on the old Town Street Bridge alignment. Looking east across the river, the east abutment was located where the wall prow currently resides.
