Ojai in Ventura County, California — The American West (Pacific Coastal)
Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church
Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church was built in 1918 under the auspices of the Los Angeles-Monterey Diocese and dedicated February 23, 1919. Situated on land donated in 1905 by parishioner Thomas Clark, architects Mead and Requa's Mission Revival structure replaced the original wooden church, destroyed by fire in 1917.
Edward Drummond Libbey considered the church the "crowning achievement" of his Ojai beautification project. The property was placed under the direction of the Order of St. Augustine in 1923 and administered by the Augustinians until purchased by the City of Ojai in 1993.
On June 29, 1995, this structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Erected by City of Ojai. (Marker Number 7.)
