This house was built circa 1947 at 916 E. 17th St., Northeast of downtown Odessa. It was the home of 3 noted people before America knew their names. Two were elected Chief Executive of the U.S. and the third became First Lady, wife of the 41st and mother of the 43rd president.

Odessa was the first Texas home of George H. W. Bush, Barbara Pierce Bush and infant son, George W. Bush. They were an unassuming every day family who lived in this modest oil town house from September 1948 to April 1949. Here they adopted community customs and developed social, worth-ethic and leadership qualities. They moved in 1949 to California before returning to Midland in 1950.
