This flagstaff replaced the wooden original, presented by Dr. George Crile, Organizer and Medical Director of the Lakeside Unit, Base Hospital Number 4, commemorating the first detachment of the United States Army to arrive overseas in the World War of 1914 - 1918 stationed at Rouen, France, May 25, 1917 to March 8, 1919.
