In 1943 brothers-in-law Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins opened their second Snowbird ice cream parlor here. In 1953, after a rapid expansion throughout California, the company changed the name to Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors. As retail businesses in small towns declined in the late 1960s, the franchise moved to a strip mall a few blocks to the east.
