(7 January 1899 – 17 April 1941) was a British vocalist, crooner, and dance band guitarist who was Britain's most popular singer for most of the 1930s. He recorded upwards of 1,000 songs that were listened to by millions in Britain and other English speaking countries, seeing further success in the United States.

2. Al Bowlly Sings 'The Very Thought of You' (1934) | British Pathι (Youtube, 3:14). “ Jazz singer Al Bowlly sings his popular hit 'The Very Thought of You' in 1934 at Pathι Studios, taken from Lew Stone's famous 'Monseigneur Band.' …Bowlly was South African (although born in Mozambique) yet he became a great star in both the UK and America during the 1930s.…Al Bowlly enjoyed over 15 big hits from 1935 to 1941, acquiring a mass radio following of millions. Tragically he was killed in the Blitz, when his home in St. James was bombed in 1941. He was 43 years old. (Submitted on April 10, 2026.)
