1. Al the Wop's / Bing Lee's Noodle House Marker
Inscription. After the Walnut Grove fire of October 7, 1915, Lee Bing and a partnership of merchants erected this building. Lee ran it as a Chinese Restaurant.

In 1934, Alfred Peter Adami arrived in town with a woman on each arm and a fistful of money that he had "allegedly" earned from bootlegging during prohibition. Al and a partner opened the new Locke Cafe, known as Al the Wop's as a nod to his Italian heritage. The menu in 1977 offered steaks only; your waitress simply asked, "How do you want it?"

Al was a prankster, famously stirring ladies' drinks with his finger. He could be gruff and sometimes surly, but was known to be generous to all.

Al's Place remains a down-to-earth establishment that will never allow itself-or its customers to be taken too seriously.
