Ringwood's WWI home front

The Australian Red Cross Society was founded on 13 August, 1914, nine days after the outbreak of WWI. The Ringwood ladies quickly responded and five days later they formed one of the first Australian branches, the Ringwood Red Cross League.
The branch was extremely successful and very hard-working. Besides raising money for the Patriotic Fund, garments, clothing and comforts of all sorts were made and dispatched to the troops.
A Ringwood District Patriotic League was formed in August 1915 with Dr Langley as President, who also conducted ambulance and first aid classes. The role of the League was to arrange send-offs for the Ringwood volunteers.
