Sending off the WWI Troops
The Ringwood community was extremely proud of their volunteers, while understanding the danger and potential loss of life. Large crowds would attend send offs, most times in the Ringwood Mechanics Institute Hall or at local churches.
A typical send-off took place in May 1915, at the Ringwood Methodist Church, with performances by the Sunday School Choir, speeches, and supper to send off H. Mackinlay, Rhys Thomas, F. Parker, B. McCann, C. Ham, M. Howship, and Rae and Os. Thomas.
The boys joined hands and sang "Auld Lang Syne" before making their way to the Broadmeadows Army camp for training.
