The Naugatuck Line of the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railway had its northern terminus in Winsted. To reorient an engine so that a train could return south, the engine was driven onto a large turntable, which was then rotated by hand (see the "arm" in the photos). The turntable was located at Willow Street, close to Case Avenue, just east of the passenger station at Bridge Street. The snow scene on the left seems to show an earlier more modest turntable than the 1872 and 1930's photographs.
