Second Baptist Church of Foster purchased this for $15.00 in 1795.
Rhode Island General Assembly voted a lottery for erecting Elder Hammond Meeting House in 1796.
Foster town meetings first held here in 1801. Church trustees conveyed title to town in 1822 on condition the town pay $85.00, half the cost of repairs.
Erected 1982 by Foster Preservation Society.
