Derived from convex shapes and geometric patterns, this uniquely designed sidewalk stretches from SE 2nd Street to NE 13th Street along Biscayne Boulevard. It was commissioned by the New World Foundation and created by world-renowned landscape designer and artist Roberto Burle Marx. The design was approved by the Miami Commission in July of 1988 and progressively constructed over the next two decades under the direction of Haruyoshi Ono.

Roberto Burle Marx was a world-famous Brazilian landscape designer and artist. Born in Sγo Paulo, his designs of parks and gardens were each unique expressions of thought. Inspired by nature, Burle Marxs works created a modern grammar for international landscape design.
