Denkmal für die zerstörte Synagoge in der Lindenstraße 48–50 in Berlin
Die Synagoge in der Lindenstraße gibt es nicht mehr. Geblieben sind nur Bänke und eine Seite aus dem Gebetsbuch.
Jede Seite des Talmud enthält Interpretationen einer Bibelstelle aus verschiedenen Jahrhunderten. In diesem Zusammenhang ist unsere Arbeit zu verstehen. Sie ist eine Seite aus dem Buch, und sie erzählt die hundertjährige Geschichte dieses Ortes an der Lindenstraße. Wir haben dem, was vorher einmal dagewesen war, nichts hinzugefügt. Die jetzige Position der Bänke entspricht exakt ihrer Anordnung im Grundriss der zerstörten Synagoge.
Wie im talmudischen Text gehören die Bänke, die Bäume und Büsche und die Feuerwehrzufahrt verschiedenen Zeitschichten an. Was an die Synagoge erinnert, sind die Bänke. Die Zerstörung zeigt sich in dem Vorhandensein der Bäume und Büsche, die über die Ruinen gewachsen sind. Die Feuerwehrzufahrt, vorgeschrieben von der aktuellen Berliner Bauordnung, markiert die Gegenwart.
Die Elemente der Zeitschichten bilden die Zeichen einer heiligen Schrift. Bäume und Büsche geben den Bankreihen den Rhythmus, wie die Pausen und Punktierungen eines Textes, gelesen durch den Besucher, der zwischen den Zeilen geht. Dies ist eine Erzählung von Verlust. Die Bänke werden zu Gräbern. Grabzeilen – Textzeilen. Erinnerungsblatt – Gebetsblatt.

Memorial for the destroyed synagogue at Lindenstraße 48–50 in Berlin
The synagogue on Lindenstraße no longer exists. Only benches and a page from the prayer book remain.
Every page of the Talmud contains interpretations of a biblical passage from different centuries. In this context, our work should be understood. It is a page from the book, and it tells the hundred-year history of this site on Lindenstraße. We have added nothing to what once existed. The current position of the benches corresponds exactly to their arrangement in the floor plan of the destroyed synagogue.
As in a Talmudic text, the benches, the trees and bushes, and the fire access route belong to different layers of time. The benches are what recall the synagogue. The destruction is expressed in the presence of the trees and bushes that have grown over the ruins. The fire access route, required by current Berlin building regulations, marks the present.
The elements of these layers of time form the signs of a sacred text. Trees and bushes give the rows of benches a rhythm, like the pauses and punctuation of a text, read by the visitor who walks between the lines. This is a narrative of loss. The benches become graves. Lines of graves—lines of text. A page of remembrance—a page of prayer.

בית הכנסת היהודי בלינדן שטרסה איננו. נשארו רק ספסלים. דף מספר תפילה. בדף מן התלמוד אנו מוצאים פירושים והתייחסויות מתקופות שונות לטקסט המקורי של התנייך.
העבודה שלנו הנובעת ממחשבה זאת יכולה להיות מובנת כמו טקסט, דף מספר סיפור בן 100 שנה של פיסת אדמה בלינדן שטרסה. לא הוספנו דבר שלא היה במקום, הספסלים, העצים, שיחים ושביל מכבי האש אינם אלא רבדים שונים בזמן ובהיסטוריה של המקום.
מבית הכנסת שלפני מאה שנה נשארו רק ייהספסלים", אותם הצבנו בדיוק במקום בו עמדו הספסלים המקוריים. מאז חורבן בית הכנסת נשארו העצים וצמחיית בר בין שברי הלבנים של מבנים הרוסים.
ההווה המופיע עייי דרך מכבי האש - מייצג את חוקי הבנייה והבטיחות של ברלין המודרנית.
האלמנטים האלה, כל אחד מיצג תקופה, חוברים יחד לכתוב את הדף, העצים השיחים והדרך יוצרים סימני פיסוק ורווחים בין המילים-הספסלים. הקריאה היא הליכה בין שורות הספסלים, העצים והשבילים.
זהו סיפור של אובדן. הספסלים הופכים לבית עלמין. שורות של קברים, שורות של טקסט, דף זיכרון, דף תפילה
