Mission San Diego de Alcala, founded 16 July 1769 by Fray Junipero Serra, O.F.M. The third church on this site, begun in 1808 was dedicated 12 November 1813.

Plaque placed 12 November 1981 by California State Society, United States Daughters of 1812 for their 75th anniversary, Marian Bradford Kaump, state president.
