1. The William Seyfarth House Marker

Inscription. William Seyfarth and his wife Edna, commissioned his brother, Robert Seyfarth to build a home for them. The mission revival style home sits on the lot of 400 Elm St. The house is one of several located in the area that was once known as Roche's Woods. Roche was instrumental in the incorporation of Blue Island as a village in 1872.

Robert Seyfarth was born and raised in Blue Island. He began his architectural training at Chicago Manual Training School, which later became part of the University of Chicago. He went to work, after graduating, for George Washington Maher, who was an important designer of the Prairie School of Architecture.
