New York’s first sporting event after the September 11 terrorist attacks began with an emotional pre-game tribute, and culminated with catcher Mike Piazza’s dramatic two-run home run in the eighth inning that propelled the Mets to a 3–2 victory over the Braves. Piazza’s blast invigorated the Shea Stadium crowd and lifted the spirits of our hometown.
Net proceeds of Citi Field Fanwalk bricks have been donated to the Mets Foundation, which supports area charities and causes.
