Waldo Bates, Jr. founded the Art Department at Edinboro State Normal School in 1920, cultivating a far-reaching legacy that endures through the work of thousands of artists and art educators worldwide. A WWI veteran, beloved instructor, painter and photographer, Bates lived at this site with his family during his transformative 35-year tenure.
