Inscription.
Senator John Humphrey, Orland Park’s first mayor, built and moved into a home near this location. Living near the village’s original railroad station, he would ride the train to Chicago where he worked as an attorney, or to Springfield where he was a state legislator. He can be considered one of Orland Park’s first commuters.

Humphrey was Orland Township Supervisor in 1867, and later became Township Treasurer. In 1880, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives where he served until 1886. He was elected state Senator in 1886, and served in the Senate until 1910. Humphrey championed the interests of the suburbs in state politics. His efforts led to the incorporation of the Village of Orland Park in 1892.
