Andrew A. Amatrudo. Chief of Department. , Chief Amatrudo joined the North Branford Fire Department at age 16 and rose through the ranks over the next 50 years, ultimately serving as Chief of Department until his retirement in 1984. Subsequently, he remained involved with Company 1, amassing over 65 years of service., Andy was the personification of selfless service to the community. He displayed an unwavering commitment to serve the citizens of North Branford and his firefighters whenever and wherever needed. Whether it was closing his business to go to a fire call or quietly assisting someone in need after the emergency was over, he displayed an extraordinary level of self-sacrifice and service to others., As a chief officer, he taught us that we must be respectful, well-trained, considerate and well-disciplined; and must continuously strive to improve our skills. Nothing made him more proud than to witness and acknowledge his firefighters performing competently and in a caring manner to the benefit of our citizens., Above all, he demonstrated that being a firefighter is much more than just something you do, it is who you are. Forever to be remembered as "Chief", we acknowledge his life-long commitment to our community which has provided a lasting example for all North Branford Firefighters who follow in his footsteps. Selfless service is one of our cornerstone values today, as it was yesterday and as it will be tomorrow., I want to fill my calling and give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect their property...
