1. Allen County's First Post Office Marker
George Srouf was Allen County's first appointed postmaster in 1832, at a time when early post offices were held in the home of the postmaster. The post office first relocated to a decommissioned county courthouse around 1850 and continued to move locations an additional four times before finally settling on the Southwest Corner of High and Main Street in 1880.
Government funds granted the office a new building located on High and Elizabeth Street that was completed in 1895. Within two decades, there was another push for a replacement. The cornerstone of the current post office on the Northeast corner of Pierce and High Street was placed in 1930, and the doors have been open to the public since 1931.
