1. St. John Catholic Church Marker

Inscription. The St. John Catholic Church stands as an enduring testament to the faith, dedication, and collective spirit of Lima's Catholic community. In 1899, the growing Catholic community petitioned their Bishop for a parish, who then purchased the land on South Main Street. St. John celebrated its inaugural mass on June 30, 1901. As the parish grew, parishioners continued practicing mass in the Church basement until a new building was constructed on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924. Today, St. John continues its mission, not just as a place of worship, but as a center of outreach, tradition, and hospitality deeply embedded in Lima's social and spiritual landscape.
