1. General Curtis LeMay Marker

Inscription. General Curtis Emerson LeMay was a prominent figure in the U.S. Air Force, (formerly known as the Army Air Corps.) serving as its fifth chief of staff. Born in 1906, he began his military career in 1928 as a flying cadet, eventually becoming a commissioned officer in the Army Air Corps Reserve. LeMay played significant roles in World War II, pioneering air routes and leading bombing missions in both the European and Pacific theaters. He was instrumental in organizing and training bomber groups, developing formation procedures and bombing techniques. Post-war, he held various command positions, including leading the Strategic Air Command (SAC), where he built an all-jet bomber force and laid plans for intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities. LeMay's leadership was characterized by his dedication to peace and the advancement of aerial warfare. He was also recognized for his academic achievements, holding honorary degrees and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and is a distinguished alumnus of the College of Engineering, The Ohio State University.
