Inscription.
The railroad arrived in Groveport in 1868, increasing the town's prospects for business and travel.

The original plans for the railroad routed it through the Asbury area, which would have devastated Groveport.

However, local businessman Michael Corbett helped attract the railroad to Groveport by donating some of his land for the right of way to bring the railroad to Groveport. The Groveport train depot sat along the south side of the tracks on land just west of Front Street.

Three sets of tracks were once present in the Groveport railroad yard. Livestock pens also sat along the tracks near the depot and grain elevators.

The railroad had strong ties to the nearby agricultural economy. In 1875, more than 5 million pounds of freight were shipped, and over 5,000 passengers passed through the Groveport depot.
