Inscription. In 1937, Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company began producing small motors for refrigeration and air- conditioning units in Lima, with its very first product being motors for washing machines. During World War II, the plant's role expanded dramatically to meet the soaring demand for war materials. Its workforce swelled from 1,500 to 5,000 as it manufactured gun stabilizers for tanks, generators, and small motors for bombers, fighter planes, and cargo aircraft. In 1992, Westinghouse Electrical Corporation was sold to Sundstrand, which ultimately closed the Lima facility just four years later, in 1996.
