World Football Icon Ferenc Puskás coached in Melbourne between 1989 - 1992. He achieved NSL championship glory with South Melbourne FC at the site of the former Olympic Park Stadium. As a player, his record is unequalled - as a coach, his impact profound. His career tally of 598 goals in 614 matches stamps Ferenc Puskás as an eternal giant of the beautiful game.
This memorial statue was presented to the people of Victoria by the Government of Hungary, represented by Mr Zsolt Nemeth, Chairman, Foreign affairs committee, Hungarian National Assembly together with Mr Robert Belteky, Puskás Foundation Board of Trustees. 4 February 2017

Ferenc Puskás (2 April 1927 – 17 November 2006) was a Hungarian football striker, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. He played for Hungary national team and Spain national team.
