Inscription. Floyd County is among the most welcoming of America's small places, honoring community traditions while incorporating cultural expressions from other regions. Its diverse population includes a traditional farming community, new organic growers, creative musicians, artists, and skilled trade workers.

The county is home to respected makers of stringed instruments. For many, music-making has long been a family tradition. Blind Alfred Reed, Randall Hylton, and contemporary artist Morgan Wade are among those rooted in generations of singers and music makers who have called Floyd County home.

Travelers and locals alike unite to dance and enjoy old-time and bluegrass music at The Floyd Country Store. Starting in the 1980's, after-hours jam sessions flourished into the Friday Night Jamboree, which became a full lineup of concerts, dances, and jam sessions that welcome music makers of all skill levels. The associated Handmade Music School pairs folks with regional musicians guaranteeing this music will thrive long into the future.
