English Translation:
St. Nicholas Church is the oldest building in Berlin and bears witness to the founding of the city. Around 1230, it was built as a late Romanesque basilica; the fieldstone foundation of the tower has been preserved. In 1379, the Gothic choir was under construction, and in the 15th century the hall church was completed. From 1876 to 1878, the church was restored, the tower structure was raised, and two spires were added. In 1945, it was destroyed by Anglo-American bombers. From 1981 to 1987, it was rebuilt by decision of the Council of Ministers of the GDR.
