[First paragraph cannot be interpreted.]
Black Skimmer (Rynchops niger) is black above and white below with a thick black-tipped red-orange bill. It is very long-winged, and is graceful and buoyant in flight, with the head always held lower than the tail. While feeding, it flies over shallow water, with its lower mandible slicing the water surface foraging for food. A colony of skimmers and terns nests in the grassy area of the Tangier beach during July and August.
Length 18"; Wingspan 46"
Black-Crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) is a gray and white heron with a black crown and back and a relatively short bill. Its short neck and legs and its habit of hunching its neck into its body give it a stocky appearance. Two or three white plumes are seen trailing from the back of the neck.
Length 25"; Wingspan 44"
