The Selber Brothers building was built in 1955 and became a shopping destination for generations of locals. Though it eventually closed, Selber Brothers remains a cherished part of Shreveport’s history, remembered fondly by those who once browsed its aisles.

2. High-tech Company Will Soon Move into Selber Building (KTBS.com).
(By Alanna Quillen, Sep 24, 2015) Excerpt:  When Selber Brothers opened its new department store in downtown Shreveport in the 1950s, it was like nothing else in town. Its design was so modernistic that people went there just to look at it. Selber's has been closed for decades, but it's about to be restored. A datacenter and cloud services company, who bought the building for $160,000, plans to develop a new datacenter facility and technology park, and with that company, comes the promise of high paying jobs.

A one-time architectural gem, it sits on Milam Street, catty-cornered from the Caddo courthouse. It's a piece of prime real estate, with a vibrant

The marker is mounted at eye level on an emergency exit door near the west end of the north/front facade.
history. “It was a department store for many many years. And it was a mainstay locally and a lot of people shopped there,” said Liz Swaine, executive director for the Downtown Development Authority. The Selber family opened the building in 1956. The store closed in the 1980s and was handed off to LSU Health Sciences Foundations. “It's been used for storage, was donated to someone, then it was donated to someone else. So it's been trying to find a home for a while.” said Swaine. It was eventually donated to Caddo Parish. But the building is about to get a new life, as officials work to try to reverse the trend of companies moving out of downtown to the suburbs.
