1. Japanese Persimmon Marker
Inscription.
This tree, presented to Manzanar National Historic Site by Green Legacy Hiroshima on World Peace Day, September 21, 2025, is a descendant of a persimmon tree located on Peace Boulevard near Shirajinja Shrine.

About 600 yards from the hypocenter, the mother tree is the only persimmon that survived the atomic-bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Kokutaiji Temple, which was built in 1601, had many trees at the time of the atomic-bombing. The temple and most of the trees were burned to the ground, but 12 trees at the temple garden pond endured.

Green Legacy Hiroshima has been established to safeguard and spread the seeds and saplings of Hiroshima's atomic-bomb survivor trees - and their message of peace and hopes for a nuclear-free world.

Erected 2025 by National Park Service.
