1. Watch Factory Depot Marker

Inscription. Constructed in 1883, this is the last remaining example of the small, wood framed chalet-style depots that were used along the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad lines. The depot was primarily for passengers, many of whom worked at the Elgin National Watch Company factory and resided in the numerous boarding houses that once lined the nearby streets. The railroad also had a larger passenger and freight depot in downtown Elgin and on the west side. Passenger service was discontinued in the 1930s. The railroad tracks were removed in the 1990s. The depot is being restored by the City of Elgin with donations from local citizens and organizations.
