Kirtland Temple
| | Historic Kirtland Historic Site | |
In response, Church members of all ages united to build this temple under the direction of their prophet, Joseph Smith.
Local member Eliza R. Snow said, "With very little capital except brain, bone and sinew, combined with unwavering trust in God, men, women, and even children, worked with their might.... Their energies were stimulated by the prospect of participating in the blessing of a house built by the direction of the Most High and accepted by him."
The temple was dedicated on March 27, 1836. At the dedication and in the days following, many Church members enjoyed powerful spiritual experiences in the temple. Jesus Christ visited the temple on April 3, 1836, accepting it as His house.
