1. Tom Hickman Marker
Inscription. Coach Tom Hickman is the Father of Track at Cape Henlopen High School. He coached state championship teams in 1971, 72, 73 and '75. Hickman harnessed the cultural and racial diversity of the newly formed school district and turned that mix into winning teams. Hickman received the Silver Star for bravery in World War II. He was an All-American in both soccer and track at West Chester State College, West Chester, Pa. Coach Hickman was a mentor to his student-athletes and remains a hero to all Americans. His favorite expression: "Confound you!"
