Inscription.
Thirteen of the first settlers here, led by Elder Roderick Rawlins met on Sunday, July 5, 1846, and entered into a written agreement "to associate together as a church of Christ, taking the scripture alone as our Rule of Faith and practice." The Christian Church grew from this beginning.

The Presbyterian Church organized on July 26, 1856, in the workshop of John Green, a primitive Baptist minister, with nine charter members.

The Baptist Church organized in the Masonic Hall on September 29, 1867, with thirteen charter members that grew to 100 by 1879.

Formal organization of The Methodist Church took place on May 28, 1868. Actual record of this beginning has been lost, but a list of thirty-one charter members has been compiled.

In the absence of houses of worship, church services for some groups were held at the school house, Masonic Hall, and homes of members. Those requiring immersion for baptismal practice used Ten Mile Creek. Church buildings were erected by the Baptist, 1873, the Methodist, 1874, the Presbyterian, 1884, Christian, 1887.
