1. Reeve House/Hurricane Hotel Marker

Inscription. On land owned by the Hurricane Canal Company until late 1915, this Victorian Eclectic-style house was constructed during 1913-14 by Thomas R. Reeve, homeowner; Charles Cottam, carpenter; and Earl Spencer, plasterer. Like many others in the area, Thomas's work on the canal earned him the land. In early 1915, Thomas and his wife Mary Jane began operating the home as the Hurricane Hotel. After their deaths in 1918 and 1925, respectively, their son, Harold W. Reeve, obtained ownership of the house and hotel. Harold and his wife, Artimesia Jepson, operated the hotel until 1970. It has continued to be a Reeve family residence. At the back of the house is a c.1910 granary in which the Reeves lived until completion of the house.
