David "Dave" Demmerle was known and respected for having high expectations for his students and encouraging academic excellence in student-athletes. In addition to decades of classroom instruction, he coached football and track and field for 36 years, helping BW teams capture a total of 28 Ohio Athletic Conference Titles and a Division III National Football Championship. Dave was also a self-taught gymnast and is remembered by many students for feats of physical and mental discipline required by his gymnastics courses. Balanced in accolades as he was in his life and career, Dave was honored with the Strosacker Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1979 and inducted into the BW Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
