Dr. James Feldman
Professor of Music Theory 1975 - 2008
James Feldman was a professor of theory in the conservatory of music from 1975 to 2008, his sprawling intellect and sharp wit inspired several generations of conservatory students in their foundational theory studies and beyond, his classroom lectures blended rigor and humor, as well as an uncanny ability to relate music theory to a multitude of other subjects. In addition to teaching music theory, Feldman developed opera and aesthetics courses for liberal arts student's and served as a volunteer accompanist for many lessons, juries, and performances, Feldman chaired the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society for many years and was a member of the Honors Program Committee and the Riemenschneider Bach Institute Advisory Board. A co-recipient of the Bechberger Award for Human Development in 1981, he was committed to valuing students in all stages of their learning.
