Charlie Burke served as an innovative professor for almost 40 years, chairing his department for more than two decades. An experiential learning pioneer, Burke required his students to work presidential campaigns, led "freedom tours," and was instrumental in bringing the Model U.N. Program to BW. Burke also mentored students as heritage hall faculty-in-residence and as advisor to the student senate. Burke was the first president of faculty senate and served on many campus task forces. He received the Bechberger Award for Human Development in 1976 and the Strosacker Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2002. Burke's legacy continues through a scholarship he established to benefit BW students.
