Professor of music education and associate director of the conservatory, Al not only taught theory to prospective music teachers but also the practical information they needed to succeed as teachers and musicians. He was a thoughtful mentor who cared for each student as an individual. Active in the Berea United Methodist Church, he will particularly be remembered by his students and the B-W community for his ready wit and sense of humor, not only in his classes but at many college events as well.
