Drafted in the thirty-fourth round by Chicago in 2008 before opting not to sign, Marcus Semien was drafted by Chicago once again in 2011; being selected in the sixth round. During his 2021 breakout season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Semien broke the single-season record for most home runs by a second baseman (44). In 2021, Semien was awarded a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove award; finishing 3rd in AL MVP voting.
