1. Early Springbrook Home Construction Marker
The Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) had completed about 300 homes in the Springbrook community by September 1920, and another 14 deluxe homes for Company officials. These homes were built to provide housing for workers in the new Sheet Mill, later to become known as the West Plant. The homes along Nobel, Perkins, Remsen, and Dalton Streets were primarily for unskilled laborers, while the homes along Maury and Ramsay Streets were for management workers. By 1928, approximately 960 homes had been built by the Company throughout the city.

More than 80 of these homes were built in the Springbrook community in 1920.
The James and Margaret Weir house on the rise at the edge of Springbrook Park near the intersection of Nobel and Darwin Streets. It was the oldest log home in Blount County.
May Day activities are conducted in May 1939 on the Springbrook School grounds near the creek. In the picture directly above, the Weir house can be seen in the upper left corner.
