A corporate visionary, who oversaw development of the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline, he was widely recognized for his principled convictions of faith and ethical action in his business dealings and personal life B-W's Spahr Chair of Managerial and Corporate Ethics, one of the first established in the nation, the Resource and Reference Center in Ritter Library, and the Spahr Scholarships honor his commitment to learning and to B-W. The college conferred an honorary doctor of laws upon him in 1978.
