Henry F. Hall Building
The Henry F. Hall Building was inaugurated in October 1966. It was the centerpiece of Sir George Williams University, established in 1926 as a pioneering college that offered accessible and innovative full-time and part-time programs to men and women. The college granted its first degrees in 1936, although it only obtained its university charter in 1948.
This classic 1960s "high-rise" building made of prefabricated stressed concrete was named for Henry Foss Hall (1897-1971), gifted teacher, student counsellor, Dean and Principal of the university. When he died, a tribute read: “The humanism of Henry F. Hall permeated Sir George Williams University under his leadership; much of the man became part of the University.”
Sir George Williams was the first Canadian university to offer a full range of programs to evening students. It merged with Loyola College to create Concordia University in 1974.
Pavillon Henry-F.-Hall

Excerpt: The building is named for Henry Foss Hall, president of Sir George Williams University from 1956 to 1962. It was designed by architecture firm Ross, Fish, Duschenes and Barrett, which hired James A. M. K. O'Beirne, to draw up the plans. It was inaugurated on 14 October 1966, the same day as the Montreal Metro. In 1994-95, the building's exterior, having been damaged by pollution and the elements over the decades, was cleaned and re-painted. It was the scene of the Sir George Williams Computer Riot in 1969, the Concordia University Massacre in 1992 and the Concordia University Netanyahu Riot in 2002.(Submitted on May 30, 2026, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
