Larry Hartzell inspired both students and colleagues as a member of the music faculty and department chair. Interested in the relationship between technology and music, he founded the electronic music studio at BW and directed that studio until his retirement in 2006. He also established the Midi Multimedia Computer Lab at the Conservatory. His passion for musical theatre led him to the forefront of BW's efforts to rebuild this program, which is recognized as one of the finest. He earned BW's Gigax Award for Scholarly Research and the Strosacker Award for Excellence in Teaching, the university's highest honor.
