Wray Stickford headed the Department of Religion from 1962 to 1980 and advised BW's religious council. Known as a quiet leader, Stickford provided steady guidance to his department during times of great societal change. His service to the East Ohio Conference of the Methodist Church helped strengthen bonds between the church and BW, and he encouraged many students to pursue vocations in the church. Stickford's worldwide travels, especially to eastern nations, gave students a global perspective on matters of faith. In recognition of his devotion to counseling and advising throughout his career, he received the prestigious Bechberger Award for Human Development, in 1975.
