Dwight Evans was a fifth round selection by the Boston Red Sox in the 1969 MLB draft. While playing in Winston-Salem in 1971, Evans acquired his nickname "Dewey" by Manager Don Lock. Evans spent all but his final season of his 19-year pro career for the Red Sox; playing the second-most career games for Boston, by a player, behind only Carl Yastrzemski.
