A graduate of Prairie View A&M, Cecil Cooper made his Major League debut for the Boston Red Sox in 1971 after starting out the year in Winston-Salem. The five-time MLB All-Star played six years for the Red Sox before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers where he spent the final ten years of his playing career. Cooper continued to work in baseball and became the manager for the Houston Astros from 2007 to 2009.
