Boothe Barn

1. Boothe Barn Marker

Inscription. Hyrum E. Boothe built this barn in Grantsville about 1875. The beams are secured using mortising and tenon and wooden pegs rather than nails, bolts or metal strapping.

The Boothe family started the journey across the plains in 1852. Only eleven- year-old Hyrum completed the trip. The orphaned Hyrum stayed under the care of the Adams Company commander and arrived in the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1852.

Hyrum and his wife, Sarah Ann Hunter, raised seven children on 400 acres of land in Grantsville. His son, William, sold the barn to Earl (Red) and Twylla (Toni) Allred. The Allred's sold the barn to Richard and Karene Davis in 1967. The Davis's soldthe property to R & D Construction and Development with the agreement that the barn would be preserved and donated for historical purposes.

When the Davis family owned the barn, they displayed a Nativity scene every Christmas in the loft window. They donated the Nativity scene to the Benson Grist Mill where it continues the tradition to be displayed each Christmas. The Davis family and all of the LDS Church missionaries in the area assist the Benson Grist Mill Restoration
