Johnson Cabin

Johnson Cabin. . Andrew John and Elna Pehrson Johnson homesteaded land on what was then the northern outskirts of Tooele City (west side of Main Street at 7th North) where they built the log cabin in 1864., Eventually their youngest son, Samuel, was given the home and part of the homestead. His youngest daughter was Bernice Emma who married Louis Rheinholt Vorwaller. Louis and Bernice bought the farm during the depression and raised a family of five boys and one girl. Samuel and his wife, Clara Sophia, remained living with the Vorwaller family until they died., Eventually the cabin was modified with an additon on the back for a kitchen; then a two story living area and bedrooms on the right hand side. The one room log cabin became hidden when wood siding was added to the entire home., This land where the cabin was built is still owned by Louis Vorwaller's sons, Wesley and Terry Vorwaller, who are establishing a business venture where the pioneer log cabin once stood. As the old home was torn down in 1998, the log cabin was discovered. When the bedrooms were added the right log wall was removed and after the cabin was moved to the Mill property, the wall was reconstructed with logs. This cabin was donated by the Vorwaller family to the Benson Grist Mill Historic Site in 2000.
